ABC radio Artworks Amanda Smith disscussed with David Tatnall the beauty of the low tech pinhole camera. "David Tatnall is probably best known as a wilderness photographer, but he's also a champion of new ways of seeing using old technology."
The workshop will give a broad overview of pinhole photography; from simple pinhole cameras made from household objects to purpose built large format cameras. Participants will make a simple pinhole camera from supplied materials and using film and paper negatives.
The workshop is designed for those who want to learn about pinhole photography from a base level.
David Tatnall has been a practising fine art photographer since 1975. His art is to produce handcrafted fine prints using traditional photography techniques, using medium & large format cameras.
The National Gallery of Victoria, Monash Gallery of Art, City of Melbourne, State Library of Victoria and other public and private collections have collected his work.
In 2006 he received a grant from the City of Melbourne to produce a series of pinhole photographs using a handcrafted 8 x 10 pinhole camera.
A pinhole photograph from his series Transience has been short listed in the 2007 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize
