'Silvi Glattauer is a Melbourne based photographer and printmaker  with a particular interest in the ‘fine print’.
 She has worked extensively with a contemporary photogravure technique for translating her imagery. 

Overview: Photogravure is a photographic image produced from a non toxic solar etched plate. This photo mechanical process produces prints with the subtlety of a photograph and the art quality of an etching. The original photograph emerges as a beautifully textured intaglio print, a combination of fine art papers, permanent inks and the etching press. This workshop includes edition printing, duo and mono tones, exposure methods, making positive film, plate washing and control open etching. Beginners and more advanced printers will gain from this workshop.

Background: In 1852 Talbot invented the 1st photo etching method and screens critical for the development of photogravure. This was further developed by Karl Klic in 1879.

This intense 3 day workshop includes:

* Different means of producing a positive film (transparency) for contact printing. Inkjet films as well as image setter films.

* Combining photographic material with hand drawn materials, or found objects.

* Exposure guidelines for best results. Single and double exposure methods will be covered.

*Plate washing methods.

* Open etching - how to control

* Edition printing.

* Single coloured prints (monotone)

* Duo tone prints via rolled colour.
