. . The Gathering

Large format users - 4x5 and beyond

The Gathering was formed so like-minded photographers, who take pleasure in working with large format cameras could meet on a biennale basis to share information and views.

This Gathering was unique, for the first time in Australia 27 photographers dedicated to the use of large format cameras met to share views and photograph the villages of Trentham and Trentham East. Cameras used by the members are 4x5, 5x7 and 8x10 inches. (e.g. an 8x10 camera uses single sheets of film 8 inches by 10 inches) All the prints were contact prints from the negatives (contact print means the print is the same size as the negative). All were processed and printed in a traditional wet darkroom. The photographs for the exhibition were taken on the 2nd & 3rd of June 2007. They were processed, printed, framed (professional conservation framing) and on the wall in an exhibition in less than 72 hours. Chris Reid director and master fine printer of Blanco Negro flew from Sydney, donating his time processing film and printing to make this possible. This type of exhibition would normally take several months to prepare.

(Affiliated with the DAYLESFORD FOTO BIENNALE )

The exhibtion will travel to PhotoSpace Collingwood Melbourne.
