ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This 2-day class is suitable both for newcomers to toning silver gelatin prints and established print workers. A knowledge of chemistry is not required.
The workshop is all in daylight/room light conditions and students will need to bring a good supply of ready-made untoned prints for toning. These can be trial work prints for experimentation &/or finished prints for final toning.
The workshop will explore toners that are used either for their archival protective properties or for their aesthetic effects, or both.
A variety of toners with very different properties will be used, including selenium, gold, sepia, iron and copper toners, both singly and for multiple toning effects.
Students will be given detailed instructions to enable them to come fully prepared and will be supported with notes and handouts throughout the course.
By the end of the workshop students should acquire a good working knowledge of different groups of toners and how and when to use them and for what purposes.
The emphasis of these workshops will be on informality, co-operation and fun, and stressing the learning value of ‘playtime’, safe individual risk-taking and group sharing.
No photographers will be harmed in the making of this workshop
