Encaustic

In this workshop you will explore the potential of combining photography and encaustic wax processes. Discover how the light refracts through the wax in unique ways, giving photographs a translucent and otherworldly quality. The smooth layer of wax can give great luminosity to the photographic images.

We will cover three techniques, firstly glazing photographs with encaustic after they have been adhered to a wooden panel, dipping photographs printed onto Japanese paper into encaustic medium, and hand-colouring photographs and then glazing with encaustic medium. This workshop is ideal for photographers wanting an introduction to combining photographic images and encaustic. For this workshop you do not require specific encaustic experience.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Adhering a photograph onto a sized wooden panel
  • Applying encaustic medium and fusing
  • Dipping pigment print on paper into encaustic medium
