ABOUT COLLODION CHLORIDE PRINTING OUT PROCESS (POP) ARISTOTYPE

Founded in 1861 by Gaudin, established  by  G. Wharton Simpson 1865, mass produced by Obernetter in 1867 -68.   Also known as celliodin it  displaced albumen and starch papers by the 1890s . Aristotype is the product name for a collodion-chloride printing-out paper made by the Aristotype Company New York, this name was also applied to gelatin chloride printing-out paper. Mark Osterman George Eastman House is accredited for rediscovering the formula that is used during this workshop.

This is considered one of the most archival silver halide printing process. The glossy surface and wide tonal range add to the appeal of this beautiful photographic process. The use of various papers and toning methods controlling the colour from a warm reddish tone to deep black browns is included in this hands-on workshop. Although helpful to have worked with wet plate collodion processes, it is not essential.
