COMBINATION PRINTING:  GUM OVER CYANOTYPE/PALLADIUM/ ZIATYPE

Gum over Ziatype Ellie Young

ABOUT THE PROCESS
Gum prints are essentially photographically controlled watercolor prints made in a 19th Century process called gum bichromate. Gum arabic is mixed with watercolor paint and photosensitive dichromate, and painted onto paper. When exposed to light in contact with an enlarged negative, the gum hardens into an image that is “developed” in plain water. The workshop will centre on creating gum prints using Cyanotype, Palladium and Ziatype as a base layer. You will be using traditional  and or  digital negatives discovering simple was to achieve registration.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

During the 3 days you will create a number of photographs and understand:

  1. Paper preparation
  2. Creating 4 colour negatives and under stand pin registration.
  3. Using Cyanotype as the base for the four colour gum bichromate prints
  4. Using palladium as a base colour and adding colour
  5. Using ziatype as a base colour and adding colour and depth to the photograph
