Sandy King – Sam Wang & Jianming Zhong  Connections September 20th to November 19th 2017

This exhibition is about connecting at many levels – photography, countries, sharing, teaching and the pure pleasure of the craft.  Making photographic connections between China and USA to create this special exhibition available to Australians. This is a blend of carbon prints for Sandy King – including three colour carbons and cyanotype over palladium by Sam Wang and cyanotypes and Carbon transfers by Jianming Zhong

My objective as a photographer is to capture images that express the timeless. I am interested in the natural landscape as an abstraction of reality and I print in monochrome because it abstracts reality and allows one to concentrate on light, form and texture. Printmaking is as important to me as seeing and discovery.  Most of my work is done with hand made photographic processes, including carbon transfer and platinum and palladium. Sandy King

Sandy King in many printers minds has always been the “King” of carbon, his publications, his photographs and sharing of the process has kept this beautiful and unique alive and well.

I am most interested in the expansion of our understanding of the world through observation, so photography became the perfect vehicle. As a do-it-yourselfer, that has led to designing and making my own cameras as well as using digital alongside non-traditional processes.” Sam Wang

Wang’s work,  although often the figure in landscape, subjects vary but all are infused with his quiet distinctive style. Warm cool tones pulls you to examine his work closely. Just simple elegance.

Since we as humans always wish to preserve the original essence of what we see, the separation between the photographic document and our lives get increasingly narrow. The image not only conveys what the photographer saw, but also his/her imagination, his/her personal vision.

Subjects in my images are about what I prefer to remember, preserved visually in their younger, earlier, brilliance. Zhong
