Description

Sandarac (or sandarach) is a resin from the small cypress-like tree native to the northwest of Africa and in the Southern Morocco part of the Atlas mountains. The resin exudes naturally on the stems of the tree. It comes in the form of small solid translucent yellowish beads. It is used as the base for varnishing collodion tintype, ambrotype and wet plate negatives to protect surface and the silver image from oxidisation.(NB: often has small twigs and foreign particles in the containers)
